- Darjeeling is a town in India's West Bengal state, in the Himalayan foothills. Once a summer resort for the British Raj elite, it remains the terminus of the narrow-gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, or “Toy Train,” completed in 1881. It's famed for the distinctive black tea grown on plantations that dot its surrounding slopes. Its backdrop is Mt. Kanchenjunga, among the world’s highest peaks.

Take an overnight train from Kolkata to NJP (like Darjeeling Mail / Padatik Express) or morning flight to Bagdogra. Arrival at NJP/Bagdogra → Transfer to Darjeeling. En route, enjoy scenic views of Tea Gardens and misty hill. Check-in at your hotel. Evening at leisure: explore Chowrasta Mall Road, local cafes & shops. Overnight stay in Darjeeling.

• Enjoy boating at Sumendu Lake, surrounded by pine forests and the Himalayas. Visit Pashupati Market (Nepal border) for local handicrafts and imported goods.
